The Arena in Verona is a Roman amphitheater located in the beautiful Bra Square right inside the historical center of Verona. As an Icon of the city along with the Shakespearean Romeo and Juliet, it is one of the great buildings that characterized Roman recreational architecture. It is the best preserved ancient amphitheater thanks to regular restauration dating from the 600s. In the summer is hosts the renowned Opera Festival and is the desired destination of enthusiasts from all over the world and well as famous international singers, music groups and the dancing world and theatre show stars.
Oddly the most successful shows in the first decade of the 1900s were those of the circus, until the first performance of Aida in 1913, which officially opened the Arena Opera Festival, nominating the Veronese
amphitheater as the biggest open air Opera Theatre in the world. Thanks to this use, the need to conserve its atmospheric character for popular shows was defended as well as the need to protect the dignity of the monument itself. Moreover many a gladiator, beast and Christian persecution have taken place in the Arena....... but have no fear..... They were always only to reenact historical films!
The Arena Opera Festival is not the only event that allows the Arena to shine. Our precious amphitheater has in fact hosted (historically) the finals of Festivalbar, the finals of the 1970 edition of Games without Borders and the last stage of the 1984 Giro d’Italia (Cycle tour). The amphitheater has, also over the last few years, hosted numerous music concerts of both big Italian artists(such as Luciano Ligabue, Francesco De Gregori, Franco Battiato, Adriano Celentano, Zucchero Fornaciari, Gianna Nannini, Gianni Morandi, Paolo Conte, Elisa, Giorgia, Laura Pausini, Modà) and international artists (Elton John, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Sting, Rod Stewart, Anastacia, Paul McCartney, Neil Young, Alicia Keys, Kiss, Björk, Simple Minds, Pearl Jam amongst the most famous). Often from these concerts live albums and Show DVDs have been made. (Ligabue in Arena, Sette notti in Arena)..
